Since the world turned on its head in 2020, we’ve been on a path at Gap Inc. to create a future that challenged our traditional work model. Now that future is here! We set out to provide flexibility and optionality in how we work, while fueling a culture of innovation and creativity that is core to our company’s roots. This effort has come to life in many ways—some are physical, like the redesign of our San Francisco Hub that now houses Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic and Athleta retail stores, and others have manifested in our culture, like our Hub + Home work model.
At the heart of our Hub + Home model are two critical concepts: Optionality—the guardrails in which we all work; and Intentionality—the mindfulness with which we approach our work and teams.
While our teams work across our West and East Coast Hubs (formerly known as HQs) + Home, how frequently an employee works from a Hub will vary based on the needs of their work and the business. And in the spirit of our new work philosophy, leaders are empowered to make decisions about how their teams work best.
So, what defines a Hub or Home? Our Hubs, located in San Francisco, New York and Albuquerque, are symbols of creativity, innovation and growth. This is where our powerful billion-dollar brands pioneer fashion for all. Where stories and experiences are created. Where we stay grounded in our legacy but driven by the future. In our Hubs, we work better, together. “Home” is any space from which an employee can productively complete asynchronous work.
To fuel purposeful connection within our teams across Hub + Home, we host intentional gatherings that enhance the employee experience, bringing teams together in-person, virtually or a mix of both. And powering our work is a suite of cutting-edge technology and tools that will enable our employees to collaborate, think big and create with audacity.
