More than 50 million people pass through New York City’s Times Square every year, making it the world’s biggest tourist attraction. And we’re going big, too: Our newest Gap and Old Navy stores will open on Broadway in October, 2017 in the building that famously used to house Toys R Us.
- The stores are massive. The average Gap and Old Navy store is anywhere from 10,000-16,000 square feet with about 40-60 employees. The Gap store at Times Square will be nearly 31,000 square feet with more than 400 employees and the Old Navy store will be nearly 47,000 square feet with more than 600 employees.
- Both stores at Times Square will be the highest-volume Gap and Old Navy stores in the world.
- Both stores at Times Square will benefit from a leadership team with amazing experience. Between both stores, there’s nearly 175 combined years of Old Navy and Gap experience.
- The stores are located on the site of one of Broadway’s original theaters, where actress Mae West performed the 1890s and movies like My Fair Lady, Funny Girl and Alien had their world premieres. (When our construction crews went to work last year, they found remnants of the original orchestra pit.)
- On Times Square’s busiest days, more than 460,000 people walk past this location, making it the second most-tagged location on social media, behind Disney Parks.
