‘We Are Still In’ — Gap Inc.’s Stance on Climate Change

Last week, on the heels of the decision by the White House to formally withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement, Gap Inc. publicly reiterated its commitment to act on climate change and the goal of cutting the carbon footprint of global facilities in half by the end of 2020.
But Gap Inc. can’t solve the problem of climate change alone — the scope of the challenge demands collective action. By signing the “We Are Still In” open letter, Gap Inc. is joining with more than 1,000 cities, states, academic institutions, NGOs, and businesses to reiterate the commitment to uphold the principles of the Paris Agreement through bold climate action. We represent the broadest cross-section of the American economy assembled in pursuit of climate action.
There’s more work to be done, but together, our efforts can deliver concrete emissions reductions that will contribute towards meeting U.S. targets under the Paris Agreement.
Gap Inc. CEO Art Peck shared the following words when signing onto the statement: “Gap Inc. believes that action on climate change is not an option, it’s an imperative. This is an issue that impacts all of us, and our company was an early and emphatic supporter of the Paris climate agreement. We’re proud to join this group of innovative leaders from cities, states, businesses, and civil society across the U.S. in a commitment to taking action and doing the right thing for our planet and our people.”
