Trying to figure out what to wear to an interview can be stressful. To take some of the pressure off you, we asked our recruiters to dish on their style tips to help you show up as your best self for your Gap Inc. interview.
Here’s what we learned …
Wear something that makes you feel confident and comfortable.
We are a fashion company where personal style is appreciated and admired, so come as yourself – really. What makes our team unique is our diversity of style and personality, so don’t be afraid to express who you are through your attire.
Feel free to wear denim – it’s totally acceptable – we promise.
We know denim at an interview sounds like a faux pas, but not here. We’re passionate about the product we sell and get excited when our candidates are too. But, if you’re more comfortable dressing up a bit, go that route. Again, whatever gives you the confidence you need to be your best self.
Extra tip: Don’t take it too far – too casual can be distracting. Thumbs down to flip flops or sweatshirts or the like.
Wear something that’s uniquely you.
Do you have a piece that showcases your personality or has a story – such as a broach or a pocket square? We’d love to see it. Never shy away from a good conversation starter to calm your pre-interview jitters.
Consider incorporating our product into your look when you can.
Of course we're big fans of what we sell, but it’s not necessary to wear product from our brands. We’ve all been known to mix and match brands so don’t feel like you need dress in Gap Inc. brands. Pro tip: Come to the interview informed and grounded in our customer experience to help set you up for interview success.
Be mindful of the brand you’re interviewing with.
All of our brands have a different “personality” so make sure to tailor your look to the brand you’re interviewing with.
Extra tip: Interviewing at Old Navy, Gap or Athleta? We wouldn’t recommend a suit.
Don’t be shy.
When in doubt, ask your recruiter for their recommendation prior to your interview. They want you to do your best, so ask away!
