As a San Francisco-based retailer that began standing up for LGBTQ+ rights decades before the world woke up to it, we know that equality and belonging matter to our teams, our customers and our business. And today we are proud to announce that Gap Inc. scored a 95% out of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2023-2024 Corporate Equality Index – the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality.
All 1384 major U.S. businesses that were ranked in the 2023-2024 CEI were measured against:
-
Non-discrimination policies across business entities
-
Equitable benefits for LGBTQ+ workers and their families
-
Supporting an inclusive culture
-
Corporate social responsibility
We saw wins in many areas, including our LGBTQ+ inclusive family and domestic partnership benefts; transgender inclusion best practices, policies and healthcare offerings; and nondiscrimination policy for suppliers. And still, there is always more work to be done on education, like our recent Trans and Non-Binary Competency 101 Training for employees to develop skills to become allies and learn basics around terminology and pronouns.
As we redefine Gap Inc. for a new era, moments like this serve as both a critical reminder of the impact we can have in the world, as well as powerful motivation to do better and matter more.
