Belonging – on our own terms – is key to bridging gaps. From pronouns and style choices to corporate values and community activism, showing up in the world with the power of individual authenticity creates a stronger collective. And at Gap Inc., that means inclusion for all remains central to every way we show up as a company.
With employees leading the way across the Gap Inc. portfolio, this rings especially true during Pride month – from the product we make for customers, to how we celebrate and activate in HQ and stores, to the community partners we support, employee collaboration is the driving force behind bringing belonging and inclusion to life.
And while Old Navy's retail experience is all about bringing joy and magic to our customers each day, Old Navy employees embody these same qualities behind the scenes. After all – what's work without some play? This year we wanted to put the spotlight on the people that bring Old Navy to life and joined some team members for an epic photoshoot and a peek into how they celebrate (and style!) Pride – including what sparks joy and infuses everyday magic. Get to know Marcie (she/her) from Technical Design, Brandon (he/they) from Photo Operations, Jessica (she/her) from Marketing, Jacqui (she/her) from Merchandising, Elijah (he/him) from Styling and Keira (she/her) from the Field for more on what Pride looks like in their own lives!
How do you celebrate Pride? In special moments or the everyday – let's hear it all!
Brandon: I celebrate Pride by showing up authentically, taking up space with my points of view and perspective and building camaraderie with the LGBTQ+ people in my life. These are things I try to incorporate in my everyday life, but especially during Pride when our voices are amplified.
Jessica: I celebrate pride by honoring the bravery of the LGBTQ+ community who are tirelessly fighting for an open, accepting and courageous world. I will be listening to queer voices, blasting my pride playlist and of course parade-ing!
Jacqui: By going to various Pride events throughout the city! I also make extra effort to support LGBTQ+ businesses.
What does "MAGIC" mean to you and your community?
Brandon: To me, "MAGIC" is the kindness shared between members of the LGBTQ+ community. People may have different life experiences and come from different backgrounds but can share mutual empathy and understanding with one another.
Keira: I'd say transcending generations of (ongoing) violence and oppression in order to love and dance and celebrate is a pretty magical thing!
Who is standing next to you on your DREAM pride float? Arm in arm, spectator eyes on you...whose energy do you need by your side?
Jacqui: My BFF from College, Amber. We actually got to live this dream and walk the parade representing Old Navy in 2019! Dream come true!
Marcie: I would love to have Karol G by my side, as her energy is everything to me and represents my Latina self. I'd also invite Lady Gaga, whose unwavering support and advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community are truly inspiring!
Jessica: I would love to stand next to Trixie Mattel on my dream pride float. When I am watching Trixie I am always laughing so I think I would have the best experience with them!
What songs are an absolute MUST on your Pride playlist?
Jessica: Red Wine Supernova - Chappell Roan and Ya Ya - Beyonce!
Brandon: Good Luck, Babe! - Chappell Roan, You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) - Sylvester, Rain On Me - Lady Gaga feat. Ariana Grande
Jacqui: Slumber Party - Ashinko, Boyfriend - Dove Cameron or anything by Chappell Roan or Tove Lo
Marcie: Born This Way - Lady Gaga, I'm Coming Out - Diana Ross and Believe - Cher
