A response in Lesotho

When news reports raised questions about the environmental safety of our contracted factories in Lesotho, we took immediate steps to investigate and address the situation. A year later, here’s what we’ve learned – and what we’re doing to ensure ongoing progress.

Climate leaders

We’re taking action on climate change now. As participants in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Leaders program, we’ve met our goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Changing lights at our DCs

Changing to energy-efficient light bulbs is saving Gap Inc. 26 million kilowatt-hours and more than $2 million annually.

Solar energy

In support of cleaner fuel alternatives, we installed a one-megawatt solar power system at our West Coast distribution center campus in California.

Clean water program

We’re requiring special treatment of water used to launder Gap, Banana Republic, and Old Navy denim to ensure that it’s clean and safe when it leaves the denim laundry.

Our Environmental Council brings together executives and managers from across Gap Inc. who pool their talent and leadership skills to create positive environmental change for the company.

BICEP

When it comes to addressing climate change, policy matters. So does collaboration. In 2009, we joined BICEP, a coalition that focuses on passing meaningful legislation on energy and climate change.
